MILLER-MEEKS SIDES WITH PARTY BOSSES AND INCREASES COSTS FOR IOWANS

…Yet Again

Iowa City, IA – Today, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks voted–for the third time–to protect the tariffs wreaking havoc on Iowa families’ household budgets. Despite a number of her Republican colleagues voting against the measure, Miller-Meeks continues to defend chaotic tariffs that increase the cost of everything from construction materials and farming equipment to clothing and groceries–including eggs.

The average Iowa family will pay $2300 more in higher costs annually.

“Miller-Meeks’s continued support for a tax on hardworking families is unacceptable,” said Christina Bohannan. “This vote couldn’t make it any clearer: while some in her party chose independence and standing up for their constituents, Miller-Meeks does as she’s told by DC insiders and her party bosses rather than defending Iowa’s small businesses, farmers, and household budgets. When we unseat her next November, I will be an independent voice for Iowans – laser focused on bringing down costs for working families and the middle class.”

Iowa’s 1st Congressional District contains the cities of Davenport, Iowa City, Burlington, and Indianola. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks faces a rematch against Christina Bohannan, who came within 0.2% of defeating the incumbent in 2024. Bohannan lost by just 799 votes out of 413,000 and outperformed the top of the ticket by over 8 points – more than any other Red-to-Blue candidate in the country. National forecasters, including the Cook Political Report, universally rate this district as a Toss-Up for 2026. With Rep. Miller-Meeks showing historic weakness at just 31% favorability and facing growing opposition even within her own party, Bohannan has the best opportunity to flip a Republican seat in the country.
