YET AGAIN, MILLER MEEKS VOTES TO RAISE ENERGY PRICES

Rep. Miller-Meeks Again Votes With Her Special Interest Donors to Protect Their Profits At the Expense of Higher Costs for Iowans

Iowa City, IA – Yesterday, Rep. Miller-Meeks voted again to increase energy prices on Iowa’s families. Despite electricity prices rising twice as fast as inflation this year, and promises last cycle to bring down costs, Miller-Meeks has once again voted to increase the profits of her special interest donors in the oil and gas industry – who have given her almost $300,000 in campaign contributions – at the cost of raising prices for Iowans.

“I can’t say I’m surprised,” said Christina Bohannan. “This is par for the course for Miller-Meeks. She’ll pay lip service to rising costs on the campaign trail, but when she gets to Washington, she votes how she’s told–by her special interest donors. And as a result, our costs keep going up and up while their profits increase. It’s time to send an independent voice to DC to keep their promises and put Iowans first.”

Miller-Meeks’ vote will gut programs designed to lower utility bills for Iowa families. This is in addition to her vote for the billionaire tax giveaway which raised already raised energy bills by $345 a year.

Iowa’s 1st Congressional District contains the cities of Davenport, Iowa City, Burlington, and Indianola. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks faces a rematch against Christina Bohannan, who came within 0.2% of defeating the incumbent in 2024. Bohannan lost by just 799 votes out of 413,000 and outperformed the top of the ticket by over 8 points – more than any other Red-to-Blue candidate in the country. National forecasters, including the Cook Political Report, universally rate this district as a Toss-Up for 2026. With Rep. Miller-Meeks showing historic weakness at just 31% favorability and facing growing opposition even within her own party, Bohannan has the best opportunity to flip a Republican seat in the country
