MILLER-MEEKS VOTES AGAINST LOWER PREMIUMS FOR IOWANS
Yet Again, Miller-Meeks Puts Politics and Special Interests Over Iowans
Iowa City, IA – Today, Rep. Miller-Meeks voted against a bipartisan bill to extend the ACA premium tax credits for three years, an essential measure to combat rising healthcare costs and the cost of living for Iowans. The premium tax credits expired on December 31, and healthcare premiums–without an extension– have doubled or even tripled for Iowa families.
Notably, Rep. Miller-Meeks has received over $600,000 in campaign contributions from the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.
“No surprise at all,” said Christina Bohannan, the Democratic candidate for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
“Rep. Miller-Meeks has spent her entire time in Congress voting with her party bosses and the drug and insurance companies that fund her campaigns — and against lowering healthcare costs for hardworking Iowans. She has voted for Medicaid cuts that will leave 100,000 Iowans without healthcare; voted against capping the price of insulin for our seniors; voted against allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prices on lifesaving drugs; and authored her own healthcare plan that allows insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. This vote is no different. I commend the 17 House Republican members, including Iowa’s Zach Nunn, who did right by their districts and voted for lower premiums for their constituents–but it’s no surprise that after years of turning her back on Iowa families, Miller-Meeks was not among them.”

Iowa’s 1st Congressional District contains the cities of Davenport, Iowa City, Burlington, and Indianola. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks faces a rematch against Christina Bohannan, who came within 0.2% of defeating the incumbent in 2024. Bohannan lost by just 799 votes out of 413,000 and outperformed the top of the ticket by over 8 points – more than any other Red-to-Blue candidate in the country. National forecasters, including the Cook Political Report, universally rate this district as a Toss-Up for 2026. With Rep. Miller-Meeks showing historic weakness at just 31% favorability and facing growing opposition even within her own party, Bohannan has the best opportunity to flip a Republican seat in the country.
